A Successful Failure

1934, Comedy
Ellery Cushing (William Collier Sr.) has worked for a newspaper for years and aspires to write a weekly humor series despite a lack of support from money-grubbing Mrs. Cushing (Lucile Gleason) and their oddball children. When a demotion inspires Ellery to quit, his buddy and former co-worker, Phil (Russell Hopton), talks the jobless family man into starting a secret radio career as the funny "Uncle Dudley," which becomes a surprise hit that even captures the ears of his unknowing family.
