An Inconvenient Truth
A multimedia presentation by former US vice president Al Gore forms the basis of this fascinating documentary about the pressing dangers of global warming. Presented as a simple slideshow lecture, this may sound like a dull premise for a full-length film, yet Gore manages to make the subject both interesting and extremely relevant. He includes personal events - such as his sister's death from cancer - to explain how his view of how the world worked gradually changed. And he uses scientific research from a vast number of different sources to demonstrate how heatwaves, hurricanes and increasing water levels are a very real possibility and that how, with forthright action, they can be avoided. In a nutshell: the future's grim - but it doesn't have to be.
