The French Connection II
Gene Hackman turns in a fine performance as he reprises his role as hard-nosed New York narcotics cop Popeye Doyle. In this sequel, Doyle travels to Marseilles to put the cuffs on drug dealer Charnier (Fernando Rey, also from the first film). But someone in America doesn't want Doyle to succeed and, in a nightmare turn of events, he finds himself kidnapped by Charnier, force-fed heroin and then left for dead. His withdrawal is uncomfortable but compelling viewing. Bernard Fresson, Jean-Pierre Castaldi and Charles Millot co-star.
