    A newlywed (Mädchen Amick) worries when her visiting ex-lover (Eric Roberts) takes an interest in her husband's (John Lithgow) bank.

    Shattered

    Dan Merrick (Tom Berenger) and his wife, Judith (Greta Scacchi), have a car accident. Judith is thrown free, but Dan is injured, his face disfigured. He comes out of a coma with amnesia, full of general knowledge but completely ignorant of his own family life. Slowly, he begins to put the pieces back together, but there are troubling memories that don't mesh with the stories he's being told, and he hires private detective Gus Klein (Bob Hoskins) to help unravel the mystery of his past.

    After reporting on the murder of a teenage girl, journalist Malcolm Anderson (Kurt Russell) is contacted by the killer (Richard Jordan) known as the "Numbers Murderer," who offers exclusive information about the deaths. With the cooperation of the police, who tape the killer's phone calls, Malcolm agrees and soon becomes famous. Jealous of the attention the journalist is receiving for his coverage, the Numbers Murderer kidnaps Malcolm's girlfriend, Christine (Mariel Hemingway).

    After one of her patients threatens suicide, psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse) confronts the source of his anxieties, a downtown bookie named Mike (Joe Mantegna). Once she decides that Mike is not a serious threat, however, she herself becomes interested in his world of high-stakes gambling, and makes use of her skills at reading "tells," becoming entrenched in his dealings. Things get dangerous, though, when Mike turns out not to be a bookie at all, but a con man.

    Jesse Lujack (Richard Gere) is a small-time hustler who, while leaving Las Vegas in a stolen car, shoots and kills a police officer. When his picture turns up in the papers, Jesse hides out in Los Angeles with a French student, Monica Poiccard (Valérie Kaprisky), whom he knows from a previous affair. Monica is bewitched by his reckless behavior, enough so that she keeps quiet even after learning that he's wanted. But when police identify her as Jesse's lover, she has second thoughts.
